The British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers (BAFTS) is an association of members in three membership categories who, although independent, unite in a core purpose which is to bring about fundamental changes in the status of developing world producers through Fair Trade retailing and campaigning. Fair Trade shops and suppliers promote social justice for the producers of the goods they sell. Our members work together to create an alternative model to conventional international trade, in which human rights are at the top of our agenda.
With over 130 members there is always something going on in different parts of the country. BAFTS is proud to have members the length and breadth of the UK. Our main networking event revolves around the Annual Conference and AGM towards the end of May each year. We are also keen for members to meet regionally whenever possible. We have already had several successful Regional Meetings in Melbourne, Garstang, and Durham and Reading.
WFTO (The World Fair Trade Organisation) prescribes 10 Principles that Fair Trade Organisations must follow in their day-to-day work and carries out monitoring to ensure these principles are upheld. BAFTS is a member of the WFTO.
