BAFTS has been watching with deep concern the situation in Iran, and our thoughts are with the artisans that our member Papital works in solidarity with across the country.
We are gravely concerned by reports of escalating violence against peaceful protesters, prolonged internet shutdowns, and the severe impact these measures are having on livelihoods. Many artisans are afraid to leave their homes, workshops have been forced to close, and families are living under extreme psychological pressure, making it impossible for many to work or earn a living.
BAFTS calls on the authorities in Iran to fulfil their obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, including the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
